Carlton Avenue Gospel Hall

Carlton Avenue Gospel hall

The hall was opend aound 1935. At first it was known as Ebeneezer Gospel Hall. The Hall ws built on land bought from Moses Abbott. He was one of the original trustees and lived in a house next door to the chapel. Soon after opening the chapel was closed , possibly because of the war, but more likely due to several differences of opinion between two of the people responsible fo rwork at the hall.A meeting was arranged between the two parties in the hope that the problems could be sorted out. Eventually the two agreed and shook hands.

It was discovered that there was considerble damage to the fabric of the property,  caused by ememy action.  While the hall was closed it is thought that it was used for storing food.

Finally the hall was opened for the Sunday School and later for services, the church began to flourish and is seen as one of the most traditional of the chapels in the area.
