Park Inn Palace Hotel
At the top of Southend’s Pier Hill, 30 seconds from the High Street and the Pier, this hotel we-opened in March 2010 after major refurbishment. Before that, the hotel was known as the Palace Hotel, and before that, the Metropole.
Now boasting 137 rooms, many with a stunning sea view. Initial feedback about the Park Inn Palace has been very positive, and many have been impressed with the sea view restaurant. At the time of writing, rooms from £99 a night.

The Westcliff Hotel
One of the more well-known of the local hotels, this is a Victorian hotel, close to the seafront with spectacular views over the Thames Estuary.
The hotel is famous for weddings and conferences with a range of function rooms. It also has a number of conference rooms and is licensed for wedding ceremonies.

Southend Travelodge
For something cheap and cheerful right in the centre of Southend, there’s a Travelodge.
At the time of writing, rooms from £55 a night. The convenient location in central Southend is traded off against the fact that the hotel is above the Mayhem nightclub and Varsity bar. The Travelodge website warns of noise.

Roslin Beach Hotel
About 2 miles east of central Southend, this is on the main esplanade. With 40 rooms, you’re right on the seafront. Restaurant gets good reviews. At the time of writing, there are some very positive reviews of the Roslin on Laterooms, with a single rooms from £55 a night.

Hotels in Southend’s past:
- The Palace Hotel – This sits at the top of Pier Hill, with a good view over the estuary. The hotel was built in 1904, as the Metropole Hotel, and was reborn in 2010 at the Park Inn Palace
- The Hotel Victoria, where the Victoria Circus Shopping Centre is now
The Balmoral on Valkyrie Road in Westliff was forced to close after 30 years, due to stiff local competition. The Balmoral closed in July 2010.
- The Queen’s Hotel, formerly at the bottom of Westcliff’s Hamlet Court Road.
